US Earnings/Unemployment Figures by Race, Gender September 12, 2011

The figures are posted on Colorlines.com, but their aim is to illustrate the problems, not diagnose them.  Hence, I don’t have an explanation for the startling loss of earning power for Latinos.

It seems to me that the intuitive explanation for loss of earning power among Latinos is the increasing exploitation of Latino immigrant labor in certain US industries (construction, meat processing, wine, etc.). This would also account for why the loss is confined to men. Of course, this assumes that the study accounts for this particular population.

And I assume the BLS is using “constant dollars” here, right? Because otherwise these numbers are horrifying.
