Solitary confinement, race and slavery August 28, 2012

Lisa Guenther wrote this harrowing piece on solitary confinement, race and slavery for The Stone. They rejected it, so she wrote a new one, which they did publish, arguing that this widely used punishment (even, as she notes, for minor infractions) is a form of torture. Both are excellent.
