As JJ noted, black bloggers managed to get mainstream coverage– eventually– for the Jena 6.  But as we’ve noted here before, there are lots of other outrages, particularly against black women, that are ignored.  There’s an incredibly important new movement out there organizing to break this silence.  To learn more, go to Documenting The Silence.
