But the two often go hand in hand, and it’s not a wild stretch of the imagination to suppose that when a public figure makes some homophobic statement, it helps to legitimize homophobia, which in turn helps remove inhibitions against attacking gay people.   1. Yes. It must stop. How to make this happen? Unfortunately those with the loudest most hateful (and hate filled) voices also have money and power behind them. And the media appears to love it.
