Miss representation

Here’s the trailer for the film Miss Representation that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this January:

Miss Representation 8 min. Trailer 8/23/11 from Miss Representation on Vimeo.

I hadn’t heard of the organisation, probably because it’s US oriented, but I hope the word spreads. You can find more about them here.

Thank you @PhilosopherLiam for drawing my attention to it.

  1. When my daughter was about 9, she saw on TV Laura Croft: Tombraider. The next time we went to the library, she found it among the DVDs and checked it out. She watched it over and over for a week. My older son finally asked her, “Why do you like this movie so much?” and she immediately replied, “Because, FINALLY, the girl is the hero!”

  2. I liked Tomb Raider for that too, to be honest.
However, all of them completely fail the Bechdel test, and that very simple test does heavily indicate misrepresentation of women, I think.
See our topic on that here.
