The town of Corigliano, Italy, “created the new post of municipal philosopher, stipulating that the first holder of the office, Graziella Lupo, would be available for consultation at the town hall “between 15.00 and 19.00 on Fridays”.
She charges about 15 euros per session and talks to individuals as well as groups. The only downside so far seems to be criticism on the part of some psychologists that Lupo will come dangerously close to practicing psychology. Like a lot of philosophers, indeed, Lupo does get some comers interested in talking about their problems, but says she tries to work on ideas, not emotions.
I’m tempted to go to my city council with this idea!
